These LS crate engines do not run a magneto, and as such these engines have a belt driven alternator and a battery to power the engine’s ignition system. The commonly used battery for this application is the Braille G5 Lithium-Ion Battery unit. Weighing in at just under 1.5 pounds, the Braille battery handles the LS sprint car’s CT525 ignition system and more without breaking a sweat, but obviously is not utilized or able to start the engine (even LS-based sprint cars are still push started). The issue becomes where to mount the Braille battery in your sprint car, because as we all know, these chassis do not have much room. The answer was a metal battery box to keep the Braille battery secure. Our solution is this Speedway Motors battery box that mounts to the engine’s front motor plate. The location provides quick access for battery servicing or removal for off-car charging, plus wire runs to necessary connections on the engine stay short and away from moving parts. 125-inch aluminum, the aluminum battery box is made as light as possible.
